About Us Leadership Lessons
David Annets, the Managing Director of Leadership Lessons Limited, is a retired senior police officer with extensive experience in leadership training, risk management, command and control, crime, counter-terrorism and public protection, and holds a First Class Honours degree in Policing from Christ Church Canterbury University.
David has delivered Senior Leadership training at the College of Policing (formerly the National Policing Improvement Agency, NPIA), including Professional Policing Skills for the College of Policing Foundation for Senior Leadership Programme in the UK, and Senior Leadership training in the Caribbean (on behalf of the Department for International Development(DfID)); in Qatar at the Police Training Institute; in USA (on behalf of the New Jersey States Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP)),
in New Zealand (on behalf of the New Zealand, Australia and UK governments for Chiefs of Police from the Pacific Islands); and, in Morocco for the Gendarmerie Royale on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
We have also developed and delivered the Command Development Programme (CoDe-P) on behalf of the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
David retired in the rank of Detective Chief Inspector within the College of Policing where his extensive International Relations experience was put to good use within the context of European Police co-operation and training, as the UK’s National Co-ordinator for the European Police College (CEPOL). As the UK’s National Contact Point, David led the delivery of Strategic and Tactical Counter-Terrorism training for chief officers from 28 European Member States, and also taught Instruments and Systems of European Police Co-operation.
David has also carried out Training Needs Analysis throughout Europe whilst performing the role of Police Liaison Officer, delivering strategic International Police training, Training Needs Advice and Learning and Development consultancy throughout the world.
Additionally, David managed the delivery of UK sponsored European Police College (CEPOL) Courses, specialising not only in Strategic and Operational Counter-terrorism for European Police chiefs, but also acted as UK government support to CEPOL including managing relationships with UK police, the Department for International Development, (DfID), The National Crime Agency (NCA), the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), and Home Office EU Policing Policy.
He has also performed the role of policing adviser to the voting member to the Governing Board of the EU agency responsible for the training of senior law enforcement, CEPOL.
David is also proud to have been awarded with Honorary Membership of New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), having been elected to the body by its then President Paul Cell, and the Executive Director Mitchell Sklar Esq.
As an accredited Training Accreditation Programme (TAP) learning and development professional, David is a member of the British Institute for Learning and Development.
David is also an accredited Myers Briggs Type Indicator (Step 1) practitioner, and continues to be engaged in delivering Leadership skills overseas to Chiefs of Police.
Since leaving the police, David became the Director for the Policing Sector, and the International Director, for the two-times Queen’s Award winning Training Accreditation Programme (TAP) for Learning and Development professionals, helping to professionalise the L&D sector through world-class training which has uniquely received the most prestigious business award twice!:- namely the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation in Quality Assurance of L&D.
